Case study on the hydrogenation kinetics of naphthalene on a sulfided NiMoAl catalyst in the liquid phase. The report demonstrated the feasibility to obtain reliable reaction kinetics for the naphthalene hydrogenation in the liquid phase using only experimental results from the reaction in the gas phase and some thermodynamic data concerning the non-ideality in the liquid phase and the competitive adsorption between the reacting components and the solvent. The kinetics could be fitted successfully with a Langmuir-Hinshelwood type of kinetic model. The results show that the intrinsic catalytic activity is independent of the aggregation state.
