Investigation of the deviation of the conversion in a conventional fixed-bed reactor filled with porous catalyst pellets if the variation of the porosity as a function of the radius is taken into account. Particularly when using large particles the gas velocity will become larger nearby the walls resulting in a decrease of the conversion.
Criteria are developed for allowing neglecting the radial concentration gradients, and thus using the simple plug-flow model to calculate the reaction rate constant from the measured conversion.
