Overview of the possibilities and challenges in coupling chemical kinetics with computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Where possible, the focus is on heterogeneous catalysis. The main reason for coupling chemical kinetics with CFD is to improve the simulation of chemical reactors with a rigorous description of macro-scale mixing. The advantages and disadvantages of CFD compared to the traditional chemical reactor engineering (CRE) approach are discussed and also the interaction between both.
