A general framework has been established for the acquisition of the kinetics of systems comprising both homogeneous reactions and heterogeneously catalyzed ones based on the use of a fixed bed reactor. The diversity of reaction systems is illustrated with examples from literature. The focus is on the interplay of homogeneous reactions and the heterogeneously catalyzed ones, which differs from case to case. A general procedure for the acquisition of the kinetics of systems involving both homogeneous reactions and heterogeneously catalyzed reactions has been proposed starting from a fixed bed reactor. In addition to the fixed bed reactor, some dedicated lab setups are discussed: fed-batch reactor, pyroprobe, catalytic (micro)plate reactor, monolith reactor, fluidized bed reactor, annular reactor, structured reactor and membrane reactor.
