The report contains a general introduction on electrochemical reaction engineering and the electrolysis cell for electrosynthesis. This is folllowed by an overview on different ways of paired electrolysis. The next chapter discusses the influences of various different individual parameters to consider, including current distribution, electrolyte, and separator. Various electrochemical cells are discussed: tank cells, parallel-plate cells, micro-flow cells, packed-bed electrode cells, and fluidized-bed electrode cells. Two case studies are included: The production of adiponitrile and the production of D-Arabinose. The final part of the report extensively discusses various scale-up issues in electrochemical reactors.
