Extensive literature overview of techniques for upgrading of pyrolysis oils by removal of metals, halogens, sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen, and also regarding additives for improving the properties of the oil and stabilization. The results from the literature review were implemented in an Excel database, and these can be applied using a sophisticated a tool to simulate purification and upgrading of user-defined py-oils. Executive summaries supply an easily-accessible overview of the various purification techniques in stream diagrams and tables with advantages and disadvantages. Two case studies are worked out using the tool that was developed with various combinations of techniques (‘solutions’): (i) Plastic waste pyrolysis oil, and (ii) Waste tyre pyrolysis oil.
